Congratulations to John Elledge & Assoc PC‘s Immigration practitioner, Steve Smith, who yesterday won a vigorously-contested Political Asylum trial in the Arlington Immigration Court on behalf of a Mexican national woman and her teenage son whose husband and father was murdered after being kidnapped for ransom. Steve was able to demonstrate that his client was in grave danger in her area of Mexico where the authorities are unable or unwilling to protect family members of such murder victims, and in fact, among the perpetrators of such crimes are members of the police themselves.
In addition to successfully representing clients with Political Asylum claims, Steve represents clients in removal proceedings in Immigration Court, as well as helping young immigrants who qualify for relief under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). In partnership with the other attorneys at John Elledge & Assoc PC, Steve helps unaccompanied immigrant youth obtain Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), after our other state court practitioners obtain orders containing the required findings by Virginia Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts.
